Twelve:
It was a long night, to say the very least. I talked Miraâs head off, and vice-versa. I learned a little more about the realms. She told me most of them realms had the same names as Norse star constellations. The stories of the constellations were intrinsically linked to the mythos of the lands and peoples of the many diverse realms.
We ended up crashing after we polished off the entire bottle of Jack Daniels. Mira was swaying on her feet, so I tucked her in on the couch. It was beyond weird, letting a strange witch sleep on my couch, but she had plenty of chances to hurt me. The way I see it, Mira would either prove to be a godsend, or she would take a shot at me. I work in homicide, so I have acquired a healthy level of skepticism. So, I slept with my gun right under my pillowânot that this was anything new to me. Add to that, being a feather-light sleeper, and you have a girl that is nearly impossible to sneak up on.
I drank nearly the same amount as the little witch, yet I was sober as a judge by the time I passed out. That was a good thing this time, just in case I needed to wake the hell up and shoot a witch.
I woke to the smell of Thai spices tickling my nose. I popped up without any further need to coax my body into motion. My stomach growled as I dodged my piles of laundry. (I really needed to get on that, tomorrow.)
Mira had two plates out and a full spread of delicious Thai foods. My stomach roared like a little angry dragoness.
âI would comment on the insanity of Thai for breakfast, but then I would be a hypocrite.â
I sounded a little groggy, even to me. Mira gave me a bright smile and waved her hand in front of the food. I took a seat opposite her and I almost yipped in surprises, as two mugs of coffee flew to the table and landed gently without spilling a drop. Mira chuckled a little at my surprise.
âSorry, forgot youâre a total newbie to this life. I always eat Thai after a long night of boozing it up. Clears up a hangover better than any potion I have ever seen before.â
I arched a quizzical brow.
âThereâs a potion for hangovers?â
Mira wagged her right hand from side to side.
âThere are, but none that will completely rid you of the hangover symptoms. It is not very realistic to expect a spell to cure something done by alcohol. If you drink to excess, you are essentially, poisoning your system. I discovered Thai, coffee and lots of water do the trick much better.â
I nodded sagely, as though her advice was gospel.
âMakes sense. You were pretty wasted last night.â
Mira blushed a little and bit her lip.
âI donât normally let myself go like that. I just donât have a lot of patience for teaching people about our world. Besides, I am more of a chatty drunk, to I guess that tip the balance last night.
